kings_gifThe Magi – the three wise men – Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar travelled over land and sea to present the infant Jesus with gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The Epiphany – January 6th, is the day in many European countries on which people exchange presents.

Today is also Nollaig na mBan. The day when the woman of the house puts her feet up and her children and partner wait on her for a change.

Oddly enough it is also the day on which the Christmas decorations are taken down, dusted off and packed away for another year. Maybe the bean an tí can supervise it all from the comfort of an armchair with a cup of tea in her hand.
